3 Ways to Gain Insight Into Your Authentic Self
Internationally, 75% of workers don’t like their job.
Do you think that statistic would be that high if
people knew who the hell they were?
Obviously not.
The ones who know themselves
don’t get lost into a life they hate easily.
Anyways, asides from writing Yoda-like stuff, I am
also here to help you live a meaningful life.
I’ll do that by explaining 3 easy techniques that
will help you know yourself better.
1. Pick at your childhood like a dog at a bone
Childhood defines almost every part of who you are.
It’s also the time we notice a lot about
ourselves. For example
What we’re good at
What we like
Who do we aspire to be like
And so much more.
Try this: journal about your childhood
memories. Think about how they could’ve defined who you are today.
You might not remember much at first. But after a
few times, new memories will start to pop into your head.
Write them down. Create a database of them.
Harness your childhood memories right and you’ll
know the roots of your desires.
But don’t, and you’ll live in confusion… without ever having a clue about the kind of life you wish for.
2. Lists are your best friend
I hate writing shopping lists.
I always forget something and end up going to the
grocery store 6 times.
But even if I hate them… oh my god, they are
really useful.
So let’s use them.
By writing a list of
What you like
And what you hate
Write lists of the things you like and hate. That’s
the second exercice.
Here are the rules:
Don’t be shy.
Put everything that’s on your mind.
Be precise.
Once that’s done, review the list. You’ll notice
that some of the points you wrote wasn’t coming from you… but
from outside influences.
And so maybe you want to modify the list to make
it your own.
This exercice is especially useful to clarify what
you stand for.
And they take about 5 minutes to do — so there’s
not much to lose.
3. Ask why
Most people go with the flow.
Without questioning where they’re going, they hope
to live a meaningful life.
But most of the times, that doesn’t work. Hence
the 75% of people who aren’t crazy happy about their job.
Instead, when you get the urge to do something,
ask yourself why you want to do that.
Not only will this prevent you from living
aimlessly… but asking “why” also helps you understand what motivates your
choices.
Last words
In the military, armies need to know what they are
fighting for.
If they don’t or aren’t sure about it… disasters
happen.
They get confused
Lose their spirit
And don’t want to fight anymore
It’s the same for you: when you know who you are,
you’ll gain motivation to start fighting for a meaningful life.
Remember: a good army always has a clear idea of
what they’re fighting for.
It’s impossible to
lose your spirit when you know who you are.
So strengthen your inner army.
